Church Hill

Church
Hill is truly a unique and vibrant neighborhood of east Richmond.
The predominant architectural style of the homes in the neighborhood
are pre Civil War, many dating as far back as to 1800. As the homes
progress eastward towards Chimborazo Park, the homes become reminiscent
of the Victorian style common in the Fan. Located just east of Shockoe
Bottom, Church Hill overlooks downtown to the west and the James River
to the south. Today, most areas of Church Hill have been revitalized
and has become one of the more upscale neighborhoods in the city.
A vibrant neighborhood in the 19th and early 20th century, the neighborhood
decayed rapidly after W.W.II until 1970 when local preservation groups
stepped up to actively protect and renovate homes in the neighborhood.
Even today, several renovation projects are always progressing. Slowly
but surely mending a once derelict and dying neighborhood. |
